Even at its peak, the Edgar mullet wasn’t for the faint of heart. Often referred to as “business at the front” or “party at the back”, the mullet has a certain attitude. It’s been worn by some of the world’s most famous people, including hockey players Jaromir Jagr and Patrick Kane, as well as country music star Billy Ray Cyrus and singer Blake Shelton. The Elgar mullet has also been used in baseball, with more flow coming from the back of the baseball cap.
Now, with the resurgence of 80s & 90s styles and fewer barber visits throughout the year, it’s making a comeback. The mullet is a great way to maintain some length while adding some shape. Modern versions can be styled with mohawks, fade, a pompadour, a flat top, or a perm.
Some consider the look offensive. In fact, some countries, such as Iran & North Korea, have banned the mullet due to its “decadent Western hairstyle” and “anti-socialist” nature. But don’t worry, you can still grow your own wild mullet!
